Read Mugglenet’s exclusive and removed information concerning Deathly Hallows advertising; including aggressive marketing campaigns and Twilight. From the MuggleNet news story, Warner Brothers to launch ‘aggressive marketing campaign’ for Deathly Hallows in June:
As we get closer to the November release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, the question on everyone’s minds is: when will the promo train begin to roll?
To date we’ve only received two (1, 2) official stills and one trailer from the film.
Tonight we’re learning that those small numbers will change in June, when Warner Brothers plans to launch an “aggressive marketing campaign that launches with Twilite [sic]“. This bit of information comes from Kelly O’Connor – Vice President of Exhibitor Services for Warner Bros. Domestic Theatrical Distribution. She’s in charge of the WB trailers and advertising materials for theaters in the United States and Canada.
By ‘Twilite’, Ms O’Connor is referring to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which arrives in theaters June 30th. We wouldn’t be surprised if Deathly Hallows promo material starts appearing slightly before the Eclipse release.
Thanks to MuggleNet reader Scott, who got in touch with Ms. O’Connor recently.
This MuggleNet news story has now changed it’s title to EDIT: Information concerning Deathly Hallows advertising and now reads “At the request of Warner Bros. we’ve had to remove this information.”
Our thanks goes to Google Cache for retrieving this juicy piece of news. :)
Okay, cool to know (I’m a fan of both series and yes, I get that the movies compete in the box office as do the books on the bestseller list) but why would MuggleNet be asked to remove that tidbit of information? Even though I like both series I’m not offended (not really, though it would be nice if people could spell!) I can’t wait to see the promos come out but it seems like somebody has their facts wrong because the last Eclipse trailer has already come out and so it doesn’t seem like the promos will come out around the same time.
I doubt that the series compete on the bestseller list, haha. :D I mean, maybe now that interest in Harry Potter is going down, but in general, Harry Potter will keep the top spot for a while. As for promotion alongside Eclipse, they mean that promotional material, like new Deathly Hallows trailers, will be released around the time that Eclipse hits the theatres. They do not mean that they will release trailers, images, etc. at the same time as Eclipse releases trailers, images, etc. but when the actual movie comes out. They know that Eclipse will be a success in theatres, so playing a Harry Potter trailer before it is bound to attract more interest.
What I’m saying is that they are both popular series. I like both authors so I won’t bother to debate whether their books compete or not. You could look up the info yourself, if your curious though! Anyway, yeah, your right. I do think it would be good for them to show the HP trailer during Eclipse because it could help promote the movie (a lot) and thinking about it that way makes way more sense than thinking they are going to relese the trailers and promotional photos and movie stills etc. right around the same time. (That would be overkill and too much work) Anyway, what I don’t get is why Mugglenet wasn’t supposed to tell us this? How does the public knowing this hurt WB?
