Amazon.com is reporting that book two of Wolves of the Beyond, previously known as The Gnaw Wolf, is now entitled Shadow Wolf.
It should be noted that the summary and the release date remains the same as reported by Scholastic.com — the book will be released in October 2010 and will be around 160 pages long. The summary of the book can be read here.
Early fans of Wolves of the Beyond may remember that the first instalment of Wolves of the Beyond was originally called Lone Pup and was only later changed to Lone Wolf. Following this pattern, I am assuming that Shadow Wolf is going to replace The Gnaw Wolf in the long run.
Readers will know that a “gnaw wolf” signifies a wolf of low ranking who etches designs on bones of eaten prey – as with Lone Wolf, The Gnaw Wolf would be referring to Faolan, the main protagonist of the series who is a better “gnaw wolf” than Heep, and thus incurs his jealousy. One must wonder why a change in the title occurred and what a “shadow wolf” really is.
Both working titles are from official sources, only time will tell which one Scholastic will decide to use in the end. For now, our one and only cover of the second novel remains entitled The Gnaw Wolf. What are your thoughts on this new title? Which one do you prefer? Tell us in the comments!
